The Advantages of Choosing Invisalign®

Whether an overbite, gaps, crowded teeth, or some other dental alignment issue affects your smile and confidence, you have several orthodontic options to choose from. While some severe alignment issues require traditional metal braces, Invisalign® dental aligners correct most imperfections.

If you’re considering orthodontic treatment, join the more than 10 million people who have already enhanced their smiles and boosted their confidence with InvisalignAlla Pavlushkin, DDS, and our experienced dental team at Empire Dental Group, right here in Old Bridge, New Jersey, want to share the many advantages of Invisalign treatment and encourage you to invest in your smile.

About Invisalign

Invisalign uses a custom-made series of dental aligners to push your teeth into corrected positions. The aligners are made from clear, BPA-free plastic. Your dentist takes pictures of your teeth and uses them to plan their migration and create your aligners. Instead of having your wires tightened every couple of weeks, with Invisalign, you change your aligners every week or two, depending on your dentist’s instructions.

While you need to have biweekly appointments during the beginning of your treatment, once your dentist is satisfied that your teeth are moving as planned, you only need to have appointments every 6-8 weeks, and you can change your aligners at home.

Invisalign advantages

In addition to less frequent dental appointments, Invisalign offers many advantages, including:

The aligners are virtually invisible.

While the aligners are on your teeth, they’re nearly impossible to see. Adults and teens often prefer Invisalign because they don’t want to put up with a mouth full of metal. Someone would have to be pretty close and looking directly at your teeth to notice your aligners.

You can take them out.

When you choose Invisalign, you can take your aligners out to eat and clean your teeth. This means you can eat whatever you want without having to worry about breaking a band or wire like you would with metal braces. That said, you should wear your aligners for 22-23 hours every day for maximum effectiveness.

It’s easy to take care of your teeth.

One of the challenges of metal braces is that you need to brush and floss around the brackets and wires. It’s challenging to keep your teeth clean and prevent plaque build-up as bacteria like to hide around the brackets. However, because you can take your aligners out, you can brush and floss your teeth normally with Invisalign.

Invisalign treatment is often faster than traditional orthodontics.

Your dentist gives you personalized information about how long you need to wear Invisalign, but people finish their treatment in 12-18 months on average. Patients who opt for metal braces typically have them for between 1-3 years

The aligners are more comfortable than traditional braces.

Orthodontic treatment is never entirely comfortable. After all, we are pushing your teeth through your jaw. With Invisalign, you experience some pressure, especially when you put on a new pair of aligners. However, because they’re made of smooth plastic, they won’t scratch your cheeks or irritate your gums or tongue like traditional braces.
