Veneers In Waukesha, WI

Advancements in cosmetic dentistry has made it possible for you to have the smile you desire through the use of veneers.

Veneers are commonly used on teeth that are chipped, broken, misaligned, or worn down. Perhaps you have a tooth that is irregularly shaped? Veneers can fix this problem as well. They may also be used to close undesirable gaps between teeth.

You don’t have to settle for chipped, crooked, or stained teeth. At Bayer & Fahl our cosmetic treatments with porcelain or composite resin veneers can provide you with a great looking smile.

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin dental porcelain laminates. They are actually custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of your tooth. The shells are bonded to the front of the teeth, and can greatly improve your appearance. The color, shape, size, or length of your teeth can be altered with a porcelain veneer procedure.

Dental veneers are also made from resin composite materials. Composite veneers are thinner than porcelain. Because the resin composite veneers are thinner, they require less removal of your tooth and less of the tooth surface for placement. However, porcelain resists stains better than the composite material. Porcelain also has higher quality light reflecting properties, making them look naturally shiny.

How our Veneer Procedure Works

Typically, veneers require at least two or three appointments at our Waukesha office. The appointments will cover:

  • Diagnosis
  • Treatment planning
  • Preparation of teeth for veneers
  • The bonding procedure.

During the first visit to our Waukesha office the diagnosis and treatment planning for veneers is discussed. On some occasions the dentist may also perform the tooth preparation procedure at the first visit.

The preparation visit typically lasts between one to two hours. During the preparation teeth are gently buffed to accept the slightly added thickness of the veneer. The buffing process usually removes about a half a millimeter from the surface of the tooth. For some patients a local anesthetic may be required. After the buffing is completed, a mold is taken of the prepared tooth and sent to a laboratory for fabrication of the veneer.

The final visit also lasts about one or two hours. At this time the dentist will bond the veneer to the tooth. Initially the veneer is placed on the tooth to check for fit and appearance of color. Once any adjustments are made and a proper shade of cement is determined, the dentist cleanses the tooth for proper bonding. Special cement resin is sandwiched between the veneer and tooth. The dentist then utilizes a visible light beam which causes a catalyst to be released in the resin, thereby hardening the cement and bonding the veneer to the tooth.
