Crowns and Bridges

Advantages of Restoring your Smile with Dental Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns and bridges are common dental restorations used by Dr. Spalding Green of Nashville, Tennessee. His facility is equipped with the technology needed to determine if patients can benefit from the design and placement of dental crowns and bridges. Patients in the community are welcome to learn more about both restorations, which repair or restore teeth.

Dental crowns

Dental crowns are restorations made of porcelain. They are made to cover a tooth that may have significant damage. They may also be fabricated to replace a missing tooth by creating a full crown for over the abutment of a dental implant. Our team uses these versatile restorations for patients trying to avoid further trauma to a tooth that might have had root canal therapy or a large cavity. Dental crowns are sometimes known as “dental caps” and are made for the patient to match their existing teeth. That allows for seamless integration in the smile! We avoid the placement of gold tooth caps and focus on ceramic instead. The other types of dental crowns do not blend in with the smile as a ceramic crown does.

Dental bridges

The dental bridge is an appliance also made of ceramic fabricated to replace one or more teeth in a row. The dental bridge is made with crowns on each side, and false teeth called pontics fused between them. The bridge’s crowns are made to rest on the adjacent teeth to support the bridge, which “bridges the gap” left behind by missing teeth. Like dental crowns, dental bridges are fabricated at a dental laboratory with porcelain materials to fit over the patient’s existing teeth and provide restoration of the dental arch. These restorations are more permanent than partial dentures but less expensive than dental implants, making them an excellent solution for many of our Spalding Green Dental Health patients.
