Porcelain dental crowns are used in a number of general, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry treatments. Crowns to protect teeth that have:
- Been broken or significantly chipped
- Worn down by tooth grinding
- Become severely weakened by decay
- Undergone root canal treatment
- painful or sensitive to temperatures or sweets
- misshapened or severely discolored teeth
Dental crowns are also commonly used as a tooth replacement option with dental bridges and dental implants.
DENTAL CROWN PROCESS
Crowns are sometimes called “caps” because they are placed like a cap over the top of a tooth. To place a dental crown, the damaged, decayed or broken down portion of the tooth is removed and a filling material is often used to “build up” the remaining tooth structure to support the new crown. At this point in the crown process, BRSH Dental utilizes Cerec, CAD/CAM technology, to design & mill out, in our in-office lab your crown from a block of biocompatible, durable ceramic that is color matched to your natural tooth. The crown is chemically bonded to your tooth structure restoring it to its original strength; avoiding inconvenient, additional appointments or wearing an uncomfortable temporary.
Maintenance and the long term success of your crown involves thorough oral hygiene home care, professional cleanings and a night guard appliance may be recommended to protect your crown.
