Cosmetic Dentistry Q & A

What issues does cosmetic dentistry address?

Cosmetic dentistry procedures can help correct cracks, chips, uneven teeth, gaps between teeth, discoloration and other issues that mar the aesthetics of your smile.

What kinds of cosmetic procedures does Dr. Steinbach offer?

Dr. Steinbach offers a full array of cosmetic procedures aimed at helping each patient achieve their ideal results. Some of the most popular procedures include:

  • Porcelain veneers
  • Ceramic Crowns
  • Bridges
  • Inlays and Onlays
  • Composite Bonding
  • Tooth-colored fillings

How is a veneer applied?

First, a very small amount of tooth material will be removed to make room for the veneer. The veneer itself will be shaped to fit the tooth and correct any defect like a crack or gap. Once the veneer is crafted, it will be applied using a special adhesive designed to withstand the normal rigors of chewing and eating. Once it's in place, it can be cared for just like your natural teeth, with regular brushing, flossing, and dental visits to ensure it stays in good shape. Cared for properly, a veneer can last for many years.

What is the bridge procedure like?

Dental bridges are used to close gaps left by one of more missing teeth. In the first part of the procedure, crowns are usually placed on the teeth on either side of the gap to strengthen them so they can support the bridge. An impression will be made of the gap so the artificial teeth can be fashioned to look natural. The bridge itself will be made up of a metal based with one or more artificial teeth – crowns – attached to it. The crowns can be tinted and shaped to look just like your own teeth. Bridges can be affixed permanently or they may be removable.
