Our Marlboro office has obtained the latest technology for detecting decay. It is called Near-Infrared Transillumination (NIR) technology. It serves as an adjunct to detect a range of carious lesions and cracks in teeth without the need of radiation associated with x-rays. The way the system works is, flexible "arms" on the end of the device straddle the tooth and a light is transmitted through the arms. A computer image of the tooth appears. A healthy tooth appears light and any cavity or crack appears dark. This technology is a great asset especially when patients are not due for x-rays and to detect decay or cracks before they become problematic. Below is a brief video demonstrating this procedure. ://youtu.be/nysyE38Vf-sll. Feel free to call our office or ask about NIR technology at your next visit.
