Dental Veneers are an Ideal Dental Restoration

As a dental restoration, dental veneers have made an impact on the world of dentistry. More specifically, they have had a hugely positive impact on people who want to have better-looking teeth, but have exhausted many of the traditional options. When you have enamel that has become discolored or damaged, you have very limited ways of correcting them all at once. Dental veneers have given people the opportunity to do just that. As a result, people are actually smiling more. The great thing about this is that when you chose to get dental veneers, you are joining a group of people who have taken advantage of a cutting-edge technology to enhance their teeth and make themselves look better.

The impact dental veneers are able to make, as a dental restoration, often leads patients to ask two questions. First, they want to know if this whole thing is simply too good to be true, and second, they want to know how long dental veneers will last. The first answer is that dental veneers are incredible and very attainable for most people. Being the perfect blend of scientific innovation, dental advancement, and aesthetics, dental veneers are an ideal solution for many people. Secondly, dental veneers last a very long time. The factors that influence their longevity are much the same as the factors that influence the longevity of your natural teeth. We have found that as long as you take care of your teeth, which takes good care of your veneers by proxy, your dental veneers will last a very long time. Often, they last longer than a decade, which is what most people expect to get out of them. A vast array of studies on veneers have shown that this is accurate; here are the findings of one of the more publicized studies.

This study on dental veneers was conducted over several years. It was used to measure the reliability of veneers, why they fail, and what patients can do to make sure their dental veneers last a very long time. From a longevity perspective, the study looked at four distinct age groups of veneers, based on when they were placed. The goal was to see how long the dental veneers were successful without needing repair or replacement. In the first group, which was five to six years from placement, the success rate of the porcelain veneers was 96 percent. What this means is that under six years, dental veneers only failed roughly 4 percent of the time. In the next group, which had considerable overlap with the first, the dental veneers had a success rate of 93 percent, as measured at between the 10- and 11-year marks. Since 10 years is a good benchmark for something like veneers, the study took a look at what happened between 12 and 13 years, and between 15 and 16 years. At the under 13 years of age mark, the veneers still had a success rate of 91 percent, only dropping to 71 percent when the study looked at people who had had them in for between 15 and 16 years. As such, they are a long-lasting and ideal dental restoration.
