Myofunctional Therapy

Face Yoga more commonly known as Myofunctional Therapy is an exercise-based form of treatment focused on helping to improve orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) by addressing oral posture and muscle function. Dr. Prather likes to describe it as physical therapy for the face, head and neck.

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) are disorders of the muscles and functions of the face and mouth. OMDs may affect, directly and/or indirectly, breastfeeding, facial skeletal growth and development, chewing, swallowing, speech, occlusion, temporomandibular joint movement, oral hygiene, stability of orthodontic treatment, facial esthetics, and more.

Dr. Prather considers myofunctional therapy an important tool in maximizing the outcomes of other treatments.

Dr. Prather received her myofunctional training through the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy and has continued her training through various other organizations and groups. She employs her training daily in addressing myofunctional disorders when assessing patients for tethered oral tissues, breathing reeducation, sleep disordered breathing, oral and facial growth and development as well as airway disorders. She is always learning new ways to help patients improve their overall health and function.
